User-Blog for SAP Business ByDesign

SAP Business ByDesign supports HTML5

31.03.2016

SAP Business ByDesign will work in a new, modern HTML5 environment in future, thereby improving the handling and visualisation of the user interface.

To begin with, the features of Frameworks Silverlight developed by Microsoft were used for the visualisation of SAP Business ByDesign, this representing a “leaner” version of .NET-Frameworks. In the meantime, the programmers at SAP have responded to the changes advanced by Google and the W3C Consortium. The user interface of SAP Business ByDesign now offers support for the current graphic standard (16:9 format instead of 4:3 format), which was created for HTML in Version 5 and published by the W3C Consortium in October 2014. That means it will no longer be necessary in future to activate the Silverlight plugin in the browser before using the SAP solution. Some current browsers do not (no longer) support this plugin anyhow. Amongst these, for instance, the browser Google Chrome.

What advantages do SAP products have in the HTML5 version?

The plus points of SAP Business ByDesign in HTML5 become clear if you take a look at the objectives pursued when developing the web standard. The focus here is on security and accessibility. The user interface programmed in HTML5 can be visualised in an identical quality on all types of end device. In other words, it is now easier to access data and functions from tablets and smartphones with SAP Business ByDesign in the HTML5 version.

A further advantage of SAP Business ByDesign in HTML5 is the fact that documents created with older versions remain usable, without having to adapt anything. The fact that a considerable extension of the usable form and interactive elements is associated with the conversion to HTML5 is a real payoff here.
